God the Father: Knowing the First Person of the Trinity
The Father Does Not Waste Suffering
Romans 8:28:
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good…”
“All things”—even pain, even loss, even injustice. For the child of God, suffering is never meaningless. The Father is present. And He is at work.
He Is Not Distant in Affliction
Psalm 34:18:
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted…”
The Father does not abandon His children in their suffering. He does not watch from afar. He draws near. He carries. He comforts.
His hand may be unseen—but it is never absent.
The Father Ordains Suffering for Our Good
Lamentations 3:32–33:
“Though He cause grief, He will have compassion… for He does not afflict from His heart…”
The Father allows sorrow—but not with cruelty. His discipline is measured, meaningful, and always aimed at refinement, not destruction.
Job 1:21:
“The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Suffering Refines Our Faith
1 Peter 1:6–7:
“You have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith… may be found to result in praise…”
Faith that has been tested is stronger, purer, and more precious. And it brings glory to the Father.
Suffering Trains Us in Righteousness
Hebrews 12:10–11:
“He disciplines us for our good, that we may share His holiness…”
The pain is not pointless. It is parental. The Father uses hardship to shape holiness. He prunes what would hinder. He sharpens what will bear fruit.
Suffering Teaches Us to Rely on the Father
2 Corinthians 1:9:
“We felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God…”
Suffering humbles. It reminds us that we are not strong. But the Father is. His power is made perfect in our weakness (2 Cor. 12:9).
The Father Comforts Through the Spirit
Romans 15:13:
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing…”
The Father doesn’t only send hardship—He sends hope. Through His Spirit, He floods our hearts with peace that surpasses understanding (Phil. 4:7).
His hand wounds only to heal.
How Should We Respond to the Father in Suffering?
1. Trust His Heart
You may not see His purpose—but you can trust His character. He is good. Always.
2. Lean into His Word
Scripture becomes sweet in suffering. The Father speaks there. He sustains there.
3. Pray Honestly
Cry out. Lament. Worship. He welcomes the tears of His children.
4. Endure with Hope
“After you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace… will Himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.” (1 Pet. 5:10)
Suffering Prepares Us for Glory
Romans 8:18:
“The sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed…”
The Father is not only preparing you for survival—He is preparing you for glory.
Conclusion: Held by the Father’s Hand
Your suffering is not unknown.
Not wasted.
Not purposeless.
It is held in the hand of your sovereign, loving Father, who sees the end from the beginning. He knows your weakness. He guards your faith. He shapes your soul.
And when all is said and done, He will wipe every tear, lift your head, and welcome you into eternal joy.
“You have kept count of my tossings; put my tears in Your bottle…” (Ps. 56:8)
The Father sees. The Father holds. The Father heals.
And His hand will never let go.
