God the Father: Knowing the First Person of the Trinity
God Sees Differently
In a world obsessed with visibility, Jesus teaches something radically freeing:
“Your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” (Matthew 6:4, 6, 18)
Three times in Matthew 6, Jesus reminds His followers that God is not like man. He is not impressed by platforms, applause, or appearances. He sees the heart—and He sees what no one else sees.
What Does It Mean That the Father Sees in Secret?
It means the Father is always watching—but not in suspicion. In tender, personal care.
Psalm 33:13:
“The Lord looks down from heaven; He sees all the children of man.”
This is not surveillance—it’s shepherding. The Father’s gaze is not cold or distant. It’s warm, attentive, and faithful.
He sees your prayers, your pain, your perseverance, and your purity—even when no one else does.
The Context of Matthew 6
Jesus warns against religious hypocrisy—doing acts of righteousness to be seen by others:
Giving for recognition (Matt. 6:2)
Praying for show (Matt. 6:5)
Fasting with drama (Matt. 6:16)
Each time He says: “They have received their reward.”
But to those who practice quiet faithfulness, Jesus promises: “Your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”
Why the Father’s Sight Matters
1. It Frees You from People-Pleasing
You don’t have to curate a spiritual image. You live before an audience of One.
Galatians 1:10:
“If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.”
2. It Comforts You in Obscurity
Faithfulness that no one applauds is still seen. The Father notices every hidden act of obedience, prayer, kindness, and sacrifice.
Hebrews 6:10:
“God is not unjust so as to overlook your work…”
3. It Purifies Your Motives
When we remember that God sees the heart, we are driven to sincerity—not spectacle.
Proverbs 16:2:
“All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirit.”
The Secret Life of the Christian
The truest test of your walk with God is not what you do in public, but what you do when no one is watching:
Do you pray when it’s just you and the Father?
Do you give without needing credit?
Do you pursue holiness behind closed doors?
The Father sees. And that is enough.
The Father’s Reward
Jesus repeatedly says that the Father “will reward” those who seek Him in secret.
What is the reward?
Sometimes it’s answers to prayer (Matt. 6:6).
Sometimes it’s spiritual joy (John 15:11).
Always, it’s the Father Himself.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul. (Lam. 3:24)
To be seen by God, to be known and loved by Him—that is the greatest reward.
How to Live in Light of the Father’s Eyes
1. Seek His Approval, Not the Crowd’s
Ask: “Would this please my Father?” not “Will this impress others?”
2. Cultivate a Private Life of Devotion
Don’t just read your Bible in public—meditate on it in secret. Don’t just pray in church—cry out in solitude.
3. Trust that He Sees the Injustice
When wrongs are hidden or good deeds are overlooked, the Father sees. And He will bring every deed into judgment (Eccl. 12:14).
The Example of Christ
Jesus lived for the Father’s eyes:
“I do always the things that are pleasing to Him.” (John 8:29)
He did not seek human praise. He trusted the One who judges justly (1 Pet. 2:23).
Even in Gethsemane, He prayed alone—unseen by men, but heard by His Father.
Conclusion: You Are Seen
You are not invisible.
You are not forgotten.
You are not overlooked.
Your Father sees in secret. He knows your name. He hears your prayers. He notices your sacrifice.
And He rewards—not with empty praise, but with eternal joy.
“And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” (Matt. 6:6)
So live in that freedom. Serve in that joy. And walk in the confidence that you are always, forever, seen by your Father.
